Extras: priced add-ons on an offering

Let clients add things like beads, a photobook or extra edited images when they book. Set the price, extra time and most per booking, and see how extras affect length, deposits, coupons and packages.

Last updated

Extras are optional things a client can add to an offering when they book: beads on cornrows, a photobook with a shoot, or a few extra edited images. Each extra has its own price and can add time to the appointment. Clients choose their extras before they pick a time, so the times they see always fit the longer appointment.

Extras or add-on offerings?

Extras live inside one offering and belong to it. They have no team member or booking time of their own. An add-on offering is a full offering in its own right, with its own team and length, that a client books alongside a main service. Use extras for things that only make sense with one particular offering.

Setting up extras

  1. 1

    Open the offering

Go to Manage, then Offerings, and click the offering you want to add extras to.
  2. 2

    Click Add extra

In the Pricing & options section, find the Extras card and click Add extra.
  3. 3

    Fill in the extra

    • Name: what clients see, for example "Beads" or "Extra edited images".
    • Description (optional): a short line under the name, for example the colours you have.
    • Price: in rand. Use 0 for a free extra.
    • Extra minutes: how much longer the appointment runs for each one. Leave it at 0 for things that take no time, like prints.
    • Most per booking: 1 gives clients a tick box. A higher number, up to 99, lets them choose how many.
  4. 4

    Save

Click Add extra in the dialog, then Save at the bottom of the page.

An offering can have up to 20 extras. Use the ⋮ menu beside an extra to Edit it, Move up or Move down, or Remove it. Your booking page lists extras in the order you set here.

Changes apply to new bookings. A booking keeps the name, price and time of its extras as they were when it was made, so editing or removing an extra never changes a booking you already have.

In the Booklink app, open the offering and edit it: the Extras row lets you add, edit, reorder and remove extras in the same way.

How clients choose extras

On your booking page, once a client picks the offering (and its option, if it has more than one), its extras open underneath. An extra with a most per booking of 1 is a tick box. The others have minus and plus buttons to choose how many. Each extra shows its price and the time it adds, and a line underneath shows the price and length with the extras included.

The client then continues to pick a time. The times on offer fit the whole appointment, extras included. Their booking summary, confirmation email, WhatsApp message and manage booking page list each extra under its service.

When a client books several services in one visit, each service shows its own extras. When you create a booking yourself with New Booking, on the web or in the Booklink app, you can add extras for the client in the same way.

Length, price and deposits

  • Length: each extra adds its minutes for every one chosen. Two of an extra with 15 extra minutes make the appointment 30 minutes longer. A rescheduled booking keeps its full length.
  • Price: extras are added at their own price. A sale on the offering applies to the offering only, not to its extras.
  • Deposits: the deposit you set on the offering stays the same amount when a client adds extras, and is never more than the booking's total. The extras are part of the balance on the day.
  • Paying in full: when you let clients pay the full amount upfront, that amount includes the extras.
  • Free options with paid extras: if the offering requires payment, the client pays for the extras when they book, even when the option itself is free.

Coupons

A coupon that covers the offering also comes off its extras, and a coupon's minimum spend counts the extras too. See Coupon codes.

Packages

A client who books with a package credit can still choose extras. The credit covers the offering, and the extras are not charged online. The client sees To pay at appointment with the amount when they book and on their manage booking page, and the booking in your calendar shows the same line. When they pay, open the booking and click Record payment.

Custom prices

When you type your own price for a booking, with Change price on a new booking or Custom price when you edit the services, that price replaces the services only. The extras stay on top at their own price.

Which offerings can have extras

Extras are for 1:1 appointments for now. On a workshop, event or recurring class, the Extras card reads Extras are available for 1:1 offerings for now.
